Star Bakewell Industry, makers of the well-known modern bread brand, has entered Himachal Pradesh by opening its bakery in Shimla and starting trial production at its plant here. |
This is the first big bread brand entering the hill state. Until now, Modern Bread and other popular bakery products produced by Bakewell were transported from the company's plant in Chandigarh to Shimla and other resort towns of the state. |
"The Shimla plant has been set up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore so that top-quality bread and other bakery products can be provided to the residents and tourists of Shimla and nearby areas," said Narain Thakur, managing director of Star Bakewell. |
Even though full scale production is yet to start, the company claimed to have already received an advance order of 25,000 bread loaves from hotels and residential areas of the town and nearby places. |
Shimla alone has a population of 175,000 and there are over 300 hotels and guest houses in the resort town. Besides modern bread, the plant also produces burgers, pizza base, rusk, biscuits among other products. |
Star Bakewell industry is a subsidiary of Modern Food Industry (India) which is a part of Hindustan Lever Ltd. |
Company officials said, "We plan to set up more bakeries in other parts of the state soon." |
