STC invites bids for sale of 4,986 tonnes of imported urad

State-run STC has floated bids for sale of 4,986 tonnes of imported black mapte (urad) in the domestic market.

Bids will close on July 21 and the decision on the tender will be taken on July 28, the company said on its website.STC said that pulses offered for sale are from 2008-09 crop year and bidder should quote for minimum quantity of 1,000 tonnes.

India imports pulses through trading firms like STC, MMTC and PEC as production is lower than the demand.

According to the government's third advance estimate, pulses production has been revised downward at 14.18 million tonnes from 14.25 million tonnes in the second advance estimates. Pulses output stood at 14.76 million tonnes in 2007-08 season.
