Steel task force clears new projects worth Rs 10,052 cr

JSPL, Essel Mining propose pellet plants

The state task force on steel has cleared eight new proposals worth Rs 10,052.65 crore which includes a steel plant and the remaining mostly pelletization projects.

The proposals would now be vetted by State Level Single Window Clearance Authority, the body mandated to clear projects with investments up to Rs 1,000 crore.

The proposal for a steel plant has come from Kalinga Steel Tech Pvt Ltd. The company has proposed to set up a 1.2 million tonne per annum (mtpa) integrated steel plant at Kudabaga in Sundargarh district at a cost of Rs 7213.17 crore.

Among the pelletization projects, the biggest investment proposal is from Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) that has proposed to set up five mtpa iron ore pellet plant at Deojhar near Barbil in Keonjhar district at an investment of Rs 985.29 crore.
 

Similarly, the proposal of Aditya Birla Group controlled firm- Essel Mining & Industries Ltd to set up 1.20 mtpa pellet plant at Koira in Sundargarh district at a cost Rs 379.68 crore also received the steel task force's nod.

Altrade Iron and Power Ltd has evinced interest to set up 1.20 mtpa pellet plant and 20 Mw captive power plant at Baliarpur in Bhadrak district at a cost of Rs 670.56 crore.

A pellet plant of equal capacity has also been proposed by Sushant Minerals Pvt Ltd at Sana Indupur and Bada Indupur near Koira, entailing an investment of Rs 220 crore.
