Leisure hospitality firm Sterling Holiday Resorts is renovating its 17 existing resorts and plans to add five more properties over the next six months, a top company official has said.
“We are spending about Rs 150 crore for renovating our 17 resorts, which will be completed in 18-24 months time. We are also planning to add five new resorts in the next six months on a lease basis, “ Sterling Holidays Managing Director Ramesh Ramanathan said.
With close to 57,000 members, Sterling Holidays is also exploring overseas destinations. “We are looking at opportunities in Dubai, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand, which might be on lease basis or leased on limited inventory basis, “ he said.
Apart from that, the company is also exploring new destinations, especially unexplored beach fronts. “We are looking for new destinations. In addition to the hill stations we are also looking at unexplored beach destinations as globally beach tourism is very popular and it is catching up with the domestic tourists as well,” Ramanathan said.
Sterling Holidays opened two new resorts in Karwar and Goa this week as part of its aggressive expansion strategy, which has seen the opening of three new holiday resorts in just six weeks - Woods-n-Spice in Thekkady in Kerala (opened in September), Emerald Bay in Karwar in Karnataka and Villagio Inn in Goa.
After this expansion, he said, the company will look at developing greenfield projects.
