The two-day all India strike launched by the CITU has affected normal work and steel production in the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here.
CITU had been demanding wage revision as the National Joint Committee on Steel (NJCS) failed to sort out the wage issue despite several rounds of meetings at New Delhi.
The official spokesperson of RSP admitted that normal work and productin were affected. The attendance was about 52 per cent today. No disciplinary action against any workers had been initiated so far.
The strike which began yesterday has hit most of the important departments like SMS-II, Blast Furnaces, Silicon steel mill, Cold Rolling Mill, and OBBP.
The workers affiliated to the CITU organised dharna, demonstrations at different entry poits to the plant obstructing the workers today. However, no untoward incident reported, official sources said. The activities at SAIL's captive mines in Sundargarh district and neighbouring Jharkhand state were also affected, union leaders said today.
