ZEE Group chairman Subhash Chandra has roped in Bhaskar Das to spearhead the news and digital business of the group. Das, who left Bennett Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL) earlier this month, ending his 32-year stint, will be joining Zee as Group CEO for digital and news business.
At Zee, Das will report to Chandra. He will oversee Zee News Ltd and web portal india.com, a joint venture between Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) and US-based digital media company PMC.
Business Standard had earlier reported that Das may join Zee Group.
The development follows the exit of Zee News Ltd CEO Barun Das, who had quit after being with the company for five years. The company appointed Alok Agrawal as CEO after that.
Zee also has plans to launch an English news channel.
Das, who had joined the Times of India group in 1980 as management trainee, was subsequently promoted to the post of president and principal secretary to the managing director at BCCL. In his own words, he was instrumental in maximisation of the company's volume and value market share.
