Discount retail chain Subhiksha is planning to double its customer base in Gujarat by undertaking aggressive expansion drive. |
Mohit Khattar, President-marketing, Subhiksha, told Business Standard, "We plan to increase our customer base from one million to two million in the next three months." |
Presently, the company has approximately 60 outlets in Gujarat and in the next three months the company will be adding 45 stores in Gujarat. It plans to open stores in eight new districts. |
The new districts that will be covered are Jamnagar, Valsad, Palanpur, Meshna, Bhavnagar, Nadiad, Vapi and Valsad. The company aims to increase its reach to the interior parts of the state and rope in more customers. |
Khattar denied that the present expansion is to counter the entry of other players. "Subhiksha had entered Gujarat at an early stage and there is nothing to do with the entry other player into the Gujarat market," adds Khattar. |
He further said that Gujarat is an important market and after the doubling of the customer base, the company expects to double its revenue generation from the state. |
Presently, its Gujarat operation contributes about 10 per cent to the company's revenues. |
However, he was not able to disclose the turnover of the company as the results are yet to come. |
