Sahara Group boss Subrata Roy was taken to Delhi by Lucknow police in pursuance to the Supreme Court (SC) seeking him to be produced before it on March 4.

The cavalcade comprising 3 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) left Lucknow around 1500 hrs for the national capital via Kanpur.

"The escorting police team is led by a Circle Officer (CO), a inspector, a sub inspector and four armed constables," Lucknow Superintendent of Police (SP) City (Trans-Gomti) Habibul-Hasan told Business Standard.

The entourage is likely to take 10 hrs to reach Delhi. The responsibility of Lucknow Police would be over once Roy is produced in the SC at the stipulated 1400 hrs.

On February 26, Supreme Court had issued arrest warrant against the Sahara chief after he failed to appear before a bench hearing the case related to the refund of about Rs 20,000 crore to investors of two group companies.

On February 27, cops had reached Roy's sprawling residential estate Sahara Shahar here to arrest him, however, returned empty handed after not finding him. Roy had later claimed he had gone to meet doctors regarding the critical illness of his mother Chhavi Roy.

On February 28 morning, Roy was arrested by cops. Sahara Group officials, however, maintained in fact he had willfully submitted himself to cops. In the meantime, his lawyers had moved SC for the recall of NBW, while Roy offered unconditional apology giving an undertaking to appear before court on March 4. However, there was no respite.

Later, Roy was produced before Lucknow Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Anand Kumar, who sent him to the custody of Lucknow Police, while directing cops to produce him before SC on March 4.

Later in the night, Roy was taken to a guest house of Kukrail picnic spot, situated on the fringes of the city.
