The ninth edition of Suminfra, an annual infrastructure conference scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from September 21, will see a new feature – colloquium – which will provide the governments of the four southern states with a forum to promote opportunities for the private sector in private-public-partnership (PPP) projects.
The two-day event, with the theme ‘Strengthening PPP in south India: Securing the future’, will focus on infrastructure expansion plans from each of the four southern states. It will have four separate sessions for the four states and the session for Kerala is to be attended by its chief minister Oommen Chandy, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)’s AP state council vice-chairman Suchitra Ella, told mediapersons here on Monday.
The 2011 edition of the event will have five panel sessions with topics to deliberate on including institutional framework required for delivering PPP projects and funding mechanisms for PPP projects. Besides, the conference will have a panel discussion on long-pending PPP projects in southern states and how to expedite them, and a session on ‘Urban PPP projects – Learning from international experience.’
“The country’s GDP growth of eight per cent could not be sustained without a matching growth in the infrastructure sector. While the resources allocated for infrastructure expansion in the 10th Plan was $200 million, it was doubled in the 11th Plan. The 12th Plan, which will start from next year, is expected to see an allocation of $1 trillion. The growth could only be maintained through a PPP approach,” said JP Nayak, chairman of Suminfra 2011 and president (operations) of L&T Limited.
