Suresh Krishna to take over as chairman of TVS Group's holding company

Suresh Krishna, a member of the TVS family, is set to take charge as chairman of T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd, the holding company of TVS Group. The post was vacant since R Ramachandran passed away in 2004.

Currently, Krishna is chairman and managing director of Sundram Fasteners Ltd, which manufactures high-tensile fasteners. During 1987-88, he was president of the Confederation of Indian Industry. He was also president of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India during 1982-84.

Established in 1911, T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd is an automobile dealership and distribution company.

TVS Group is a supplier of automotive components, employing about 39,000 employees, across 50 companies. These operate in fields ranging from two-wheeler and automotive components to automotive dealerships, finance and electronics.For 2012-13, TVS and Sons recorded a turnover of Rs 6,307 crore. It operates through its three divisions — TVS, Sundaram Motors and Madras Auto Service. It is also present in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It distributes commercial vehicles, multi-utility and sports utility vehicles, three-wheelers, passenger cars across companies and off-highway equipment manufactured by Escorts, JLG, Ingersoll Rand, Pal Finger & Leyland Deere.

The company is the largest distributor of automobile spare parts in India, accounting for about 80 suppliers, 8,090 customers and 35,000 parts. Meanwhile, TVS & Sons will be applying to the Registrar of Companies to convert to a private limited company (from public). The board and the shareholders of TVS & Sons have approved this proposal as the new companies act facilitates the same and this reflects the shareholding structure of the company i.e. family owned.
