Hyderabad-based Suven Life Sciences has entered into a collaboration with University of Minnesota in the US for developing new therapies to treat infection by the life-threatening human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). This in-principle collaboration is for co-operation in a research and test programme to explore clinical efficacy of, and making available to patients certain naturally occurring substances that are believed to have therapeutic value for combating HIV-1, the company stated. HIV is a retrovirus that can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). It is estimated that 0.6% of the global population is infected with HIV, mainly in Africa and the Indian sub-continent. |
