Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) has awarded a contract to set up a 52 Mw wind power plant near Jakhao in Kutch to wind energy major Suzlon.

"We have awarded contract to set up a 52 Mw windfarm at Kutch to Suzlon, which is to be commissioned before September this year," a senior official of GSPC told PTI.

He added that financial tie-up has also been arranged and advance payment has already been made to Suzlon for the project.

However, he refused to divulge the details of pricing and said that it cannot be disclosed at this juncture. But the cost for a 200 Mw project was pegged at Rs 1,200 crore.

It may be noted that GSPC had invited bids to set up a 200 Mw wind farm to generate clean energy in the state in January this year.

Following the bids, 13 companies had purchased the bid document but only two companies, Suzlon and Vestas, had finally bid for the project.

"After the first project is commissioned, we will award the contract for the second project, as we have to reach the target of 200 Mw," GSPC official added.
