UNDETERRED by the current economic slowdown, Suzuki Motorcycle India, a subsidiary of Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation, plans to invest Rs 150 crore in phases to ramp up its manufacturing capacity in the country. The company plans to manufacture 450,000 bikes annually by 2012 from 175,000 at present.
“At present, the existing plant at Gurgaon has manufacturing capacity of 175,000 bikes annually. We have plans to invest Rs 150 crore in phases to increase the manufacturing capacity,” Rakesh Kumar, zonal head (north and east) of Suzuki Motorcycle India, told Business Standard.
“Already about 25 per cent of the total planned investment has been made and by the next fiscal we would be able to manufacture 225,000 bikes annually.”
