Swc Weighs Buyout Of 2 Distilleries, 2 Bottling Units

Shaw Wallace Distilleries Ltd (SWDL) has firmed up plans to take over two distilleries and two bottling plants in another six months. "We will buy out the promoters' stake for these companies located in the North East and Maharashtra," said director Amar Sinha.

Also in the pipeline are a few tie-ups and a host of product launches to focus and enter into new segments that Shaw Wallace is missing out on.

The alliances that will be effected in a month include one with an Australian firm and a French wine maker. Although, Sinha declined to name them, he said the French company is the largest wine manufacturer. Talks have been on for marketing their labels in India by Shaw Wallace. Wines will be bottled and labeled in France and Australia and marketed by Shaw Wallace. The tie-up also include these foreign companies marketing Shaw Wallace's product there.

 

The tie-ups were done with an eye to create a presence in the international market as well as fill the gap where, it felt a vacuum exists.
