The decks have now been cleared for the city-based Swosti Group, one of the premier hotel groups in eastern India, to go ahead with its proposed resort in Puri with the Orissa High Court giving a verdict in favour of the group.
Construction work for the proposed resort in Puri, to be developed at an investment of Rs 50 crore, had hit a legal hurdle as a public interest litigation (PIL) was filed to oppose its construction.
With the Orissa High Court quashing the PIL and adjudicating in favour of the Swosti Group, we plan to resume construction work for the Puri resort by January next year, JK Mohanty, managing director of Swosti Group told Business Standard.
The resort in Puri is being developed on an area of two and a half acres and it is expected to be operational by the end of next year.
The Puri resort would comprise 100 rooms and the tariff for each of these rooms will be less than Rs 4,000.
Meanwhile, Swosti Group has decided to go slow on the construction of its Chilika resort, a project entailing an investment of Rs 75 crore.

The group had requested the Orissa government to widen the road leading to the site of the resort in Chilika.
“We had also made a proposal to the Orissa government for developing the Biju Pattnaik Park located in Chilika’s Pathuri village into an international aquamarine museum but the proposal is still pending before the state tourism department”, Mohanty said.
Swosti Group’s proposed resort in Chilika, spread over 9 acres, would comprise 150 rooms which includes 100 hotel rooms and 50 cottages. This resort will be an ethnic village resort with a built-up area of two lakh sq ft.
At present, the Swosti Group owns three hotel properties in Orissa- Hotel Swosti Plaza and Hotel Swosti in Bhubaneswar and the Swosti Palm Resort in Gopalpur-on-Sea.
