Syntel to invest Rs 175 crore

Syntel Inc, a player in the knowledge process outsourcing segment, is planning to invest around $30-35 million (Rs 150-175 crore) this year for creating new facilities and upgrading the existing ones, said company’s CEO Keshav R Murugesh.

Majority of the spend would be on the Phase II development of the Pune campus, which went online during the first quarter, and the launch of its new Chennai campus later this year. The Chennai campus will accommodate over 5,000 employees in Phase I.

Besides, Syntel would continue to explore Tier II cities for incremental investments and growth opportunities. The company had approached the state-run Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot) for 25 acre of land at the Tirunelveli IT Park SEZ.

 

Syntel registered a revenue of $410 million in 2008, representing a growth of 22 per cent over 2007. Of this, India accounted for $12.5 million, growing at 99 per cent compared with 2007.

For the year 2009, the company has provided a revenue guidance of $385 million to $425 million owing to the current economic environment, he said. It acquired 34 new clients and added over 650 people in 2008 taking the total to 12,363 employees globally.
