SpiceJet launched its airport sales counter in Ahmedabad on Thursday. But all those who turned up to buy tickets for Rs 99 retained disappointed and empty handed. And a technical snag compounded their worries. |
The inaugural flight for Mumbai and Delhi from Ahmedabad is scheduled on Monday. Hundreds of people, trying to secure a seat in the inaugural flight for Mumbai and Delhi from Ahmedabad, made a beeline at the airport counter. But a systems failure prevented many from booking the seats. |
"We had a system failure. But the response is very encouraging as all the Rs 99 tickets were sold out on Tuesday. At present, all the tickets for its inaugural flights for Delhi and Mumbai on Monday has been sold out. However, people can now book air tickets through our Internet site," Rahul Bhatkoti, station manager, Ahmedabad for SpiceJet, told Business Standard. |
Ahmedabad's travellers were disappointed as SpiceJet offer of over 30,000 'Red Hot Special Fares' starting at Rs 99 for the first 99 days of its operation were all exhausted. Even the Red Hot Special Fares for Rs 499 and Rs 799, after the web based booking discount of Rs 50 being applied to all Red Hot Special Fares were not available. |
At present, the travellers have to shell out Rs 1,670 for the inaugural flight to Mumbai on Monday, while the fare for Delhi is as high as Rs 2,570. |
"SpiceJet's offering of 5-10 seats in daily flights for this unbelievable price of Rs 99 for 99 days is all a marketing gimmick, as no seats are available even for Red Hot Special Fares for Rs 499 and Rs 799," said one of the disappointed customers at the airport sales counter. |
"Very few selective seats are offered by these low cost airlines companies such as Air Deccan and SpiceJet. I have not seen anybody getting these fares," said a senior official with a leading travel agent in Ahmedabad. |
