Hyderabad-based TajGVK Hotels and Resorts Limited (THRL), formed through an alliance between the Hyderabad-based GVK group and Tata group’s Indian Hotels Company Limited, is planning to set up a convention centre in the Taj Krishna hotel premises here.
TajGVK Hotels, which owns three luxury hotels in the city — Taj Krishna, Taj Banjara and Taj Deccan — is looking at tapping the rising MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) segment in the city through the convention centre.
“To meet our customers’ demand, we plan to set up a convention centre inside the 11.5-acre Taj Krishna campus besides a car parking facility and a bridge to connect the two hotels — Taj Krishna and Taj Deccan,” said G Indira K Reddy, managing director, TajGVK Hotels and Resorts Limited.
This would be a multipurpose centre to be used for wedding, business conferences, social functions, MICE segment, etc, Reddy said.
The company has set aside Rs 50 crore for the three projects. “Work on the parking project has started and we expect to complete all the three projects in the next 6-8 months,” she added.
TajGVK is also set to launch its new five star hotel, Taj Vivanta, at Begumpet here in October. The 189-room Vivanta hotel has come up with an investment of Rs 94 crore. It is planning to enter the value for money segment through the ‘Ginger’ brand and its first Ginger hotel in the city would come up near international airport at Shamshabad.
However, its plans to build 43 service apartments and a 7,000-sft Spa have been stalled as of now.
“We do not want to miss out on any opportunity. So we are exploring all areas across segment hotels to tap the market. Once these two projects commence, we will think of other projects," she said.
