Premium car maker Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) today said it has appointed Takashi Nagai as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the company with effect from April 1, replacing Masahiro Takedagawa, who will now head Honda's Canadian operations.

"HSCI announced that Takashi Nagai will become the fourth president and CEO of HSCI from April 1, 2010," the company said in a statement.

Nagai is currently working with Asian Honda Motor Co, Thailand, as the executive vice-president. He will also assume the position of president and CEO of Honda Motor India, it added.

Takedagawa, who has been heading Honda's Indian joint venture with the Siel Group since April 2005, has been appointed as the President and Director of Honda Canada Inc.

During Takedagawa's tenure in HSCI, the company set up its second manufacturing facility at Tapukara in Rajasthan.

His period of leadership saw the company introducing premium sedan Civic and hatchback Jazz in the Indian market. "The sales turnover of the company has more than doubled during his tenure from earlier Rs 2,100 crore in 2004-05."

"The formation of Honda Motor India for strengthening and integrating spare parts operations of Honda companies in India was an outcome of Takedagawa's strong guidance, based on the belief that customer should be provided with swift delivery of spare parts for enhanced customer satisfaction," the statement said.
