Tata Elxsi has been chosen as a strategic partner of ARM to provide software, hardware design solutions to the latter's customers. ARM is a global provider of processors, which powers various electronic equipment.

Under the pact, Tata Elxsi will provide design services to the mutual customers of both the companies who want to outsource all or part of their ARM processor-based design to gain both hardware and software expertise from a single source.

Said Keith Clarke, vice-president, Strategic Marketing, ARM: "This pact would also help the clients in time-to-market and mitigating critical design risk for first-time-right product delivery."

As part of the ARM Approved Design Centre, ARM already has five members in India that include Wipro, Sasken, HCL, Mindtree and IBM India.

As an Approved Design Centre for both the hardware and software, Tata Elxsi will help the silicon vendors and product companies across different verticals for system-on-chip design and complete software development, using the ARM processors. ARM has identified Tata Elxsi' Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram development centres to work on ARM- based technology.

Nitin Pai, head of worldwide marketing, Tata Elxsi, said the company had initially identified a team of about 30 engineers at both these centres to work for the ARM Approved Design Centre programme, which will be scaled up to 100 engineers in the next one year.

"Tata Elxsi's proven track record in embedded software design services, combined with the backing of ARM and ARM tools, will enable customers with the unique advantage of accessing an experienced embedded development team and optimise embedded IP and solutions based on ARM technology," Pai added.
