Tata Motors' Feb sales grow 58%

Home-grown auto major Tata Motors today said its total sales in February jumped 58 per cent to 69,427 units from 43,811 vehicles sold in the same month last year.

During the month under review, the company sold 66,190 units of commercial and passenger vehicles in the domestic market, representing a growth of 56 per cent over the figure of 42,493 units in February 2009, the company said in a press release. With this, Tata Motors’ cumulative vehicle sales this financial year stands at 567,535 units — a growth of 28 per cent over the 444,095 units sold during the same period last year, the company said.

 

In the commercial vehicle segment, the company sold 39,205 units in February in the domestic market — up 67 per cent over 23,454 units sold a year ago. Tata Motors sold 29,241 units of passenger vehicles last month — up 43.7 per cent from the 20,348 units sold in the corresponding period last year. This comprises 26,985 units of Tata and 2,256 units of Fiat. Cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles in the domestic market, so far in 2009-10, stood at 229,814 units, against 183,403 units in the year-ago period. Tata Motors said the cumulative sales of its small car, Nano, in the current financial year, stood at 25,640 units.

In February, the company exported 3,237 vehicles — a robust growth of 146 per cent, compared to the 1,318 units sold during the same period last year.
