Tata Motors today said its global sales rose 16 per cent to 98,998 units in January, compared to the same period a year ago, owing to robust demand for both commercial and passenger vehicles.
Sales of luxury brands from the Jaguar Land Rover stable were 20,377 units in January, up 25 per cent from the same period a year ago, Tata Motors said. While sales of luxury Jaguar sedans rose 3 per cent last month to 3,056 units, Land Rover sales jumped 30 per cent to 17,321.
Total passenger vehicles sales stood at 53,183 units in January 2011, a growth of 17 per cent over the corresponding month last year.
Global sales of all commercial vehicles – Tata, Tata Daewoo and the Tata Hispano Carrocera range -- stood at 45,815 in January 2011, a growth of 14 per cent over the year-ago period. In the April-January period, total vehicle sales rose 17 per cent to 868,583 units, compared to the year-ago period. While total passenger car sales increased by 28 per cent to 459,822, commercial vehicle sales jumped 27 per cent to 408,761 during the nine-month period of this financial year.
