Tata Motors' March sales up 38%

Auto major Tata Motors today reported 38.01 per cent jump in its total sales during March at 75,151 units.

The company had sold 54,452 units during the same month last year, Tata Motors said in statement.

For the entire 2009-10 fiscal, the company posted 28.91 per cent jump in its total sales at 6,42,686 units as against 4,98,547 units, it added.

In March, the homegrown firm registered its highest ever passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market at 27,761 units as against 23,649 units in the same period last year, up 17.39 per cent.

Its total exports in March jumped over twofold at 4,105 units compared with 1,799 units in the same month last year, it added.

 

The 'Indica' range reported sales of 11,618 units, the highest in this fiscal.

The 'Indigo' family, with a sales of 7,537 witnessed a growth of 66 per cent over the same month last year. 'Sumo' and 'Safari' accounted for sales of 3,896 units, a fall of 23 per cent compared with March last year.

Its small car Nano was sold 4,710 units during March.

In the commercial vehicles segment, Tata Motors recorded highest ever sales in the domestic market in March at 43,285 units compared with 29,004 units sold in the same month last year, a jump of 49.24 per cent.

Light commercial vehicles sales during the month were at 22,438 units, up 35 per cent, while medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales stood at 20,847 units, a jump of 69 per cent compared with March, 2009.

For 2009-10, the passenger vehicle sales stood at 2,34,930 units, the highest for the company so far.

The company registered its highest commercial vehicles cumulative sales in the domestic market in the fiscal at 3,73,615 units, an increase of 41 per cent over the corresponding period last year.

The export during the last fiscal grew by 2 per cent to 34,141 units as against 33,410 units.
