Tata Motors' Pune car production touches 5 lakh units

Tata Motors today touched the five lakh production mark in passenger cars at its vehicle manufacturing facility in Pune.

"The Pune plant has reached the five lakh vehicle production mark within nine months of rolling out four lakh vehicles in June 2004," an official statement said today.

The plant, which commenced production in December 1998 with Tata Indica, touched the one lakh production mark in March 2001, it added.

V Sumantran, executive director (passenger car business) of Tata Motors, said: "The car plant was launched with modern systems and processes and has seen its capacity increase further as we look at the future."
