Buoyed by the response to its new vehicle 'Tata LPT 909 EX Turbo Truck', Tata Motors is targeting to achieve a market share of 60 per cent in the intermediate commercial vehicle (ICV) segment. |
The ICV category falls in the range of around 6 tonnes to 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW). |
When its new vehicle was launched in May, the company clocked sales of 630 vehicles as compared to 509 vehicles sales by Eicher and 350 by Swaraj. |
The company is expecting the ICV volumes to touch 21,000 during the current year and expects to sell 12,000 vehicles. Last year, of around 15,000 vehicles sold, Tata Motors accounted for 4,600. |
Prem Kumar, head (sales) of Tata Motors for LCV and ICV categories, said that the company had sold 350 of around 1600 ICVs sold in Andhra Pradesh last year. |
During the current year, the company expects to sell 1,200 ICVs out of the total expected sales of 2,000 vehicles in the state. Turbo Truck was launched in the Andhra Pradesh market here on Wednesday. |
"Turbo Truck has the highest payload of six tonnes as compared to its competitors. It also has the highest torque in its category, air brakes, deluxe cabin and largest tyres with the lowest circle diameter of 12.3 metres," he said. |
Turbo Truck is the only vehicle in its category to have air brakes, while the competitors have only hydraulic brakes, he said. |
