Tata Motors, the third biggest player in the passenger car market in the country, is aiming to double its market share in the utility vehicles (UVs) segment in Orissa from eight per cent at present to 16 per cent in the next few months.
The auto maker expects the jump in market share to come on the back of new launches and roll out of upgraded versions of its existing UVs.
Goutam Mukherjee, regional manager (east), Tata Motors said, “Presently, we are selling about 80 units of CVs in the Orissa market and we expect this figure to double in the next few months. Apart from rolling out the upgraded versions of our existing UVs, we will also be coming out with new products in the UV segment in the coming months.”
The market for UVs in Orissa is estimated at around 800 units per month with Mahindra & Mahindra being the market leader in this segment. In terms of passenger car sales, Tata Motors has share of 25 per cent in the state.
Mukherjee hinted that some new UV models of Tata Motors will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo to be held in New Delhi from January 5-11, 2010.
