Tata Motors today announced that it would make pick-up trucks in Thailiand in collaboration with Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant. Ravi Kant, managing director of Tata Motors, said the company would invest 70% in the Rs 120-crore joint venture project. "We are looking at sales of 30,000 vehicles within three years," he said, adding that the JV will initially have a capacity of 12,000 vehicles on a single-shift basis. Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors, said in a statement: "The introduction of Tata Motors' pick-up vehicles and a manufacturing facility in Thailand provides a unique opportunity to the company. We believe the joint venture will make meaningful impact in this most competitive market for pick-up vehicles." As per the agreement, both partners would jointly manage the operation for production and marketing of the product to be sold in Thailand and also exported to other potential markets in the region. "The co-operation with Tata Motors offers Thonburi the opportunity to expand the business portfolio. The new pick-up truck will be the right product for both domestic and export markets," Robru Viriyaphant, managing director of Thonburi, said. |
