Mumbai, Mar 30 (PTI) Tata Power Company today announced the commercial operation of its 250 MW 'Unit 8' at the Trombay thermal power station in Chembur here.
Trombay unit 8 attained full load of 250 MW at 16.27 hours on March 26 and successfully completed 72-hours of full load trial operation on March 29, a release here stated.
The unit's date of commercial operation was declared as March 29, it added.
The 250 MW Unit 8 will operate on imported Indonesian coal and will enhance the generation capacity of the Trombay thermal plant to 1,600 MW from the current capacity of 1,350 MW.
The commissioning of the unit will help in bridging the ever increasing demand and supply of power for Mumbai, the release further added.
The first synchronisation of the 250 MW unit 8 with the grid was achieved on January 14 and coal firing commenced on March 7 and full load attained on March 26.

The civil works for the project was executed by Larsen & Toubro and the main plant and balance of equipment was executed by BHEL for supply, erection and commissioning under EPC contract, the release said.
Tata Power Company Managing Director Prasad R Menon said, "We are happy to announce successful completion of full load trial operation of Trombay unit 8 at 16.30 hours on March 29 and the unit has been declared for commercial operation.
"Tata Power has been in the forefront to supply uninterrupted quality power to the city of Mumbai, and the addition of this unit, further reiterates the company's commitment to enhance power supply to growing needs of the consumers."
