Tata Power plans 1,000 MW unit in Chhattisgarh

Tata Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chhattisgarh government for  setting up a 1,000MW coal fired mega power plant at an estimated investment of Rs 5,000 crore.

According to a release issued by Tata Power to the BSE, the project will require approximately 1,200-1,300 acres of land.

On the basis of preliminary feasibility study, a site in Raigarh district has been identified. The company is in the process of carrying out a detailed feasibility study for the project.

"The power from the power project will be sold substantially to distribution companies in the state," the release said.

Prasad Menon, managing director, Tata Power said: "We are happy to make our maiden foray in Chhattisgarh. With this MoU, the company has taken another step towards its growth plans and increasing its national footprint."
