Commenting on the current impasse in Singur, Sandipan Chakraborty, managing director of Tata Ryerson and chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), eastern region, today said that the situation is rectifiable.

"From CII we feel sorry and sad for the future of industry in West Bengal. The suspension of work is a terrible situation, and the only way to stop this is for political groups to find a solution immediately.", he said adding that the damage is already done. "Look at the picture of West Bengal the world is getting.", Chakraborty said.

"The solution has to be sustainable. If after two months the same situation recurs, it is problematic.", he said. On being asked if such a thing could have happened in Maharashtra or Gujrat, Chakraborty said that "It is extremely unlikely that such a thing could have happened there."

"We at CII are extremely worried about the state of West Bengal and  its people.  Industries in the state will be seriously affected", the chairman of the eastern region claimed.
