Tata Safari sees surge in sales

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Ahmedabad
Tata Safari, the only SUV from the Tata Motors stable, has witnessed a major surge in its sales in the last few months. Safari's sales before August 2006 were around 300 per month across India which has increased to 1,600.

According to company officials the reason of this surge is the restructuring of the prices and introduction of Dicor engine.

"Our SUV market has grown five times since August 2006. The reason is the restructuring of prices and introduction of an advanced engine called Dicor. We are expecting the demand of SUVs to continue to increase as the days pass," said S Krishnan, the vice president -commercial passenger car business unit of Tata motors.

Krishnan was in Ahmedabad on Thursday for the launch of Ahmedabad's third dealership of Tata motors Universal Aspi Motors. The Aspi offers sales, service and spares facilities.

Krishnan said that the demand of SUVs will keep increasing as now a days people who can afford a car prefer to travel by their own cars and not public transport. And the only model which is most comfortable is SUV. Apart from this the increasing road network is also one of the reasons. The rural market will also become major thrust in the growth of SUV market in near future as the farmers are getting richer and SUV fits in to their expectations."

Talking about figures he said that before August this year the sales of our SUV were only 300 units per month across the nation while it has increased upto 1,600 units per month.

Talking about company's strategies he said that the company will give extra focus on its service offers.

"I cant give the exact figure but many more service centres will be coming up across the nation in near future. We are concentrating on reaching to the consumer instead of waiting for them to come to us with a complaint. We want to increase our sales through better service. At present we are offering one and a half year's extended warranty for a sum of Rs 2,400 to 3,600 extra. We will come out with more such schemes."

Talking about the over all sales of Tata passenger cars he said that Indica is selling around 12,000 per month across the nation while Indigo is sales are 3,500 per month.
