Tata Sky Ltd, a 80:20 joint venture between Tata and Star, is betting big on the Gujarat market.

Vikram Mehra, head of consumer marketing, said, "We plan to reach out to all the cities in Gujarat by December end."

Currently, the company has a presence in 237 cities in Gujarat and will add another 113 cities by the end of December 2006. It launched its nationwide direct to home (DTH) service in August.

The company has chalked out a marketing strategy to tap maximum customers during Diwali by giving special offers and on-ground promotional activities.

"In our study on the Gujarat market, we found that the average cable charges are between Rs 250 and Rs 300 which is why we have positioned our price much below the prevailing market price," said Mehra.

Apart from Gujarat, the other major markets for the company are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
