Tata Steel, the country’s largest private sector steel producer, reported best ever blast furnaces and steel melting shops production in November 2008.
The company recorded a total blast furnace and steel melting shops output at 5,78,400 tonnes hot metal and 5,13,789 tonnes of crude steel respectively during Nov '08 from its previous best output in Oct '08 at 5,54,892 tonnes and 4,89,312 tonnes, respectively.
Sinter plants recorded its best ever sinter production at 5,77,076 tonnes as against 5,68,395 tonnes in previous month. G and H blast furnaces also witnessed a record hot metal output at 1,92,100 tonnes (1,90,942 tonnes) and 2,33,000 tonnes respectively, a company release said.
LD#1 (one of the steel melting shop) recorded its best ever production of 2,05,550 tonnes (previous best 1,76,491 tonnes in Oct '08 ). Wire rod mill recorded its best November production of 35,086 tonnes while merchant mills recorded its best ever production of 30,124 tonnes (previous best being 29,458 tonnes in Aug '08).
New bar mill recorded its best November production of 51,273 tonnes.
During Nov '08, the steel major reported 26.8 per cent increase in hot metal production at 5,78,000 tonnes as compared to 456 during the comparable month last year. Similarly, crude steel output reported a growth of 23 per cent at 5,14,000 tonnes from 4,18,000 tonnes. The output of saleable steel, however, declined 3.6 per cent at 4,07,000 tonnes from 4,22,000 tonnes because of planned major shutdown of hot strip mill for upgradation.
