Tata Steel's saleable steel output up 3.8% in '03-04

Tata Steel produced 4.09 million tonne of saleable steel in 2003-04, up by 3.8 per cent over the previous year.
 
The company's hot metal production at 4.47 million tonne was at an all-time high. It achieved a record production of 4.22 million tonne of crude steel, three per cent higher than the previous best of 4.1 million tonne last fiscal.
 
For the first time saleable steel despatches at the company crossed four million tonne. At 4.09 million tonne, this was 4.5 per cent higher than the previous best attained in 2002-03.
 
During the year, steel production at Tata Steel was at an all-time high. The company's sales were higher by 2.1 per cent compared to last fiscal.
 
Sales of branded flat products jumped up by a 190 per cent over last year, while Tiscon, the rebars brands, registered its best ever sales.
 
On the export front, the company registered a turnover of more than Rs 1,000 crore for the second consecutive year.
 
The company also recorded the best annual production in all profit centers namely tubes division, secondary products, rings and agrico division, Tata growth shop, bearings division and wire division.
