Tata Tea Mulls Tetley Venture Merger

Tata Tea is closely examining the option of merging Tata Tetley, the 50:50 joint venture company between Tata Tea and Tetley, with either of the co-promoters.

The board is examining the merits of continuing of tea packing business by way of a separate joint venture company and if necessary would initiate to integrate with the international business.

Tata Tetley became a subsidiary of Tata Tea as a consequence of the acquisition of Tetley in 2000. The company was incorporated during 1992 and after the formation of the joint venture between Tata Tea and The Tetley Group, UK, the business of Tetley division of Tata Tea was transferred to the joint venture company during 1994.

 

Sources said after the acquisition of Tetley, the joint venture company has lost its utility and it would make commercial sense to merge with either of the joint venture co-promoters.
