CDMA-based telephony service provider Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) has notched up 6 million subscribers, with an addition of one million customers in the last 40 days, across its 20 circles.

This coincides with the Tata group supremo Ratan Tata taking over as the non-executive chairman of the telecom subsidiary, after its former chairman Firdose Vandrewala stepped down.

"Crossing the 6 million customer milestone has been a remarkable achievement by Tata Indicom. We have strived hard to achieve this magic figure in such a short time and is the fastest growth posted by any CDMA se rvice provider in the country," TTSL President (Marketing) Harish Bhat said.

This reflects the level of trust and confidence enjoyed by Tata Indicom as a brand in the country, he said. Tata group conducts its telecom operations under te Tata Indicom brand name.

To celebrate the achievement of crossing 6 million customers, Tata Indicom organized a road show in Hyderabad by inviting Fastest Indian Narain Karthikeyan and Youth Icon Sania Mirza who felicitated customers by gifting Tata Indicom "Non Stop Mobile".

Commenting on the addition, TTSL director Mukund Rajan said that the telecom operator has added over 1 million subscribers in the last 40 day-period.

"This is a significant achievement as it coincides with Ratan Tata taking over as chairman of TTSL and this defines the criticality of the telecom business for the Tata group.

This is also due to the tremendous response received for the recently launched "Non Stop Mobile" plan by TTSL. The plan was a hit with pensioners and low-income people, as it provides a remarkable value for money proposition," Rajan claimed.
