Tatas' Singur project construction work on

 Road rollers, dumpers and piling machinery were pressed into service yesterday when work for construction of its plant began with a bhoomi puja, Rao said.

At present, the boundary wall for the project is being constructed, he said.

Although the government is yet to hand over the land to Tata Motors officially, the company has been permitted to start initial phases of the construction work at the site where prohibitory orders are still in force.

The formal hand-over of the land would take place in one or two weeks, Rao said.
