Tata Motors is exploring the possibility of supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to the Philippines.

This was revealed today by executives of Tata Sons, promoters of Tata Motors, at a meeting with a delegation which came from the Philippines.

Sources in the know of the development said Tata Motors' move to supply CNG buses was in line with the Philippines government's alternate fuel programme.

They said, in addition to Tata Motors, two other foreign companies had also expressed interest to join the programme.

The delegation invited the Tata group to take part in the country's power industry as "there was enough opportunity in wind and solar power".

Tata Power, the group's power utility, would consider the proposal and might sent a delegation to the country, S Ramakrishnan, executive director, said. The 25-member delegation is headed by the former president of Philippines, Fidel V Ramos.
