Tata Consultancy Services today said that the Workforce One Investment Board of Southwest Ohio has selected it as one of six Investing in People Awards recipients for the year 2010 for its 'goIT' initiative.
The initiative aims to ignite interest in IT careers among local high school students. Also noted was TCS's commitment to continued learning and development opportunities for its employees, the company said in a press release here.
Workforce One is a regional organisation made up of leaders from business, education, labour and government, with the majority of its board members representing the private sector. Their mission is to provide an educated and qualified workforce that meets the current and future needs of employers.
"The annual Investing in People Awards event is a chance to showcase the best examples of business commitment to workforce development from large corporations to small locally owned businesses," Workforce One Investment Board of Southwest Ohio Executive Director Jeff Weber said.
"Maintaining a strong commitment to workforce development through the tough economic times of a recession speaks volumes about the way these employers run their businesses and set the standard for others. TCS' efforts strengthen our economy and provide meaningful careers for many local residents," he said.
With a total of more than 400 employees at its Seven Hills Park office in Milford, TCS actively supports the community on a national, regional and local level, he added.
In the last 15 months, TCS has hired more than 300 new local employees at its Seven Hills Park office, of which 220 are recent US college graduates.
"Being part of the Tata Group, TCS strongly believes that giving back to the communities in which we operate is our core business responsibility and the goIT programme is just one such example," TCS North America President Surya Kant said.
