Tech Mahindra has entered the systems security engineering business by developing a solution that'll help software developers create a secured environment at their development centres.

The company is betting big on the emerging awareness among software companies about the need to have an across-the-board solution to ensure there is no unauthorised communication of information and data from locations where software development is taking place. It also sees a huge scope in the entertainment and music industry, currently reeling under mounting losses due to the piracy menace.

The company has developed an enterprise-level digital rights management (EDRM) solution that provides seamless security. Informally nicknamed Inteleak, the solution disallows unauthorised access, processing, copying or communication (through methods such as e-mails) of enterprise data, Prem Chand, vice president & head of security services, Tech Mahindra, said.

"We have beta-tested the solution for a Delhi-based company that works for a major telecom operator...tests have also been condusted to assess the capability of the solution in the banking, pharma and defence sectors. The security services group of Tech Mahindra will be headquartered out of the company's Mumbai establishment. There are software units in the group which are in the development of information security solutions for businesses in the non-telecom space with which our team will collaborate," Chand said.

"The issue of DRM is extremely vital to movie and music industries as this industry is losing an estimated $ 8 billion in terms of copyright violation. With the advent of entertainment over internet, our solution will be effective in controlling the access and storage of content...it will not be available from the site unless the customer has paid for it. And the solution can restrict any copying of the content," Chand said.
