Tejas Networks, the Bangalore-based company in the latest generation optical networking space, will work with leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMS) across the world and create channels for selling their products.

While it is in discussions with some OEMs across the world, the first agreement in this regard has been signed with the Bangalore-based telecom equipment manufacturer, ITI Ltd.

The products designed by Tejas are loaded with their own software and their actual manufacturing is contracted out to firms such as Flextronics.

Tejas sells its products both on its own and through OEM vendors. Tejas' distinction lies in designing and launching hardware products - the sort of 'boxes' that have made the likes of Cisco globally famous.

Tejas' TJ100 range of products enable telecom carriers to build converged networks which carry voice and data and offer new generation services such as bandwidth on demand and Ethernet-leased lines.

The agreement with ITI is for the TJ100 series of next generation SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) products for STM-1 (synchronous transport module), STM-4 and STM-6 capacity.

"We will try and build channels through larger players in the market and pump in our products through them. We plan to be the common denominator among all the biggest OEMs with regard to optical networking," said Sanjay Nayak, co founder and CEO, Tejas Networks.
