Telcon, a joint venture company of Tata Motors and Hitachi Construction Machinery, Japan plans to use IT in hydraulics and engineering to build intelligent excavators efficiently.

Addressing a press conference to launch excavators, Zaxis 120H and Zaxis 450H, Ranaveer Sinha, managing director, Telcon said the company plans to make substantial investments in research and development (R&D) and increase its product range.

"We presently have a share of 60 per cent in the excavator markets and are targetting a larger market share with the Zaxis range, he added. The company, he said, is growing steadily at 35 per cent per annum and is said to be initiating moves to strengthen overseas presence and is expected to step up marketing efforts to enter new markets.

According to Vikram Raje, vice-president (sales and marketing), Telcon, "The Zaxis range has been fitted with onboard information controller 'ICX' which monitors and records critical operational parameters of the machine on a real-time basis."

"This will provide a wealth of information and data that will enable the user to analyse and optimise operations. Zaxis120H "" designed for work in the construction industry and Zaxis450H "" engineered for the mining industry, are the first of the Zaxis series excavators to be made in India," he added. The Zaxis Series will be premium offerings in addition to Telcon's proven EX-Series excavators."

Telcon's manufacturing facilities are located in Jamshedpur and Dharwad, with an output capacity of over 5,000 machines per annum. The company has over 1,200 employees across the country and has revenues of Rs 930 crore in 2004-05.

With the infrastructure sector opening up, the company plans to play a major role in the infrastructure development by providing solutions for construction, mining, irrigation, cabling, building canals and road laying.
