Tata Motor's subsidiary Telco Construction Equipment Company (Telcon) today announced closure of its Jamshedpur plant from January 14 for four days, the second time in this month on slump in demand.

A decision to this effect was taken following a recent meeting between the Telcon Workers Union (TWU) and the management of Telcon, a 60:40 joint venture company of Tata Motors with Hitachi.

TWU Assistant Secretary Mahendra Yadav said the plant will be shutdown from January 14-17, followed by a Sunday, in view of the present conditions.

Anticipating that the prevailing global economic slowdown was unlikely to improve at least in this financial year, Yadav, also the company spokesman here said, Telcon has set target of 65 units each of heavy vehicles like crane and excavator for January and February.

This is the second time in this month that the company will shut down, earlier it had remained closed for a day on January one.

The company had resorted to a three-day shut down twice during December 4-6 and December 25-27 last.
