Telco Construct Equipment Company (Telcon), a 60:40 joint venture of Tata Motors with Hitachi, has announced a three-day shutdown at its Jamshedpur unit from tomorrow in view of a slump in demand.

The shutdown will be observed from December 4-6, company spokesman Mahendra Yadav said, adding that it will be adjusted against the casual and privilege leaves of employees.

Telcon has 968 employees on its pay roll in its Jamshedpur unit.

The company had registered 50 per cent production in November compared to October production figures, he said refusing to divulge the monthly production figures.

It had set a target of 1,550 units of heavy vehicles this fiscal but only 750 units could be produced till the first week of November, he said.

The company had earlier announced two-day closure on every Saturday and Sunday in November due to the slump in demand of heavy vehicles like excavator and cranes.

A decision about the shutdown was taken following a meeting between the president of Telcon Workers Union (TWU), Ramachandra and company management recently, Yadav, who is also the joint general secretary of TWU, said.
