Telenor can bid for spectrum only via Uninor: Court

In a major setback to Telenor, the Gurgaon District Court has restrained the Norwegian telecom major from participating or negotiating in the proposed second generation (2G) spectrum auction through any entity other than Uninor.

The court has ruled that Telenor “is injuncted from participating, negotiating, engaging in or financially being interested in the auction process conducted by the government/government agencies for fresh allotment of licences/spectrum,” other than through Uninor. The injunction is applicable until September 4, 2012, when the matter will come up for hearing again. Telenor had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the decision of the district court. The high court on Tuesday dismissed Telenor’s petition challenging the interim order.

Meanwhile, the Delhi HC on Tuesday deferred its hearing on Unitech Wireless (Tamil Nadu)’s plea against a CLB order, which has restrained the JV firm between Telenor and Unitech Ltd from selling its business and assets.
