Bharti Teletech has appointed Pawan Kapur as the company's new chief executive officer with immediate effect.
This comes in the wake of V J Prakash, executive director and CEO of the company, resigning early this month. Kapur was earlier head of the marketing division at Bharti Teletech, the telephone handsets manufacturing arm of Bharti Enterprises.
Kapur, in his new capacity, will be responsible for marketing and manufacturing of handsets in the country and abroad. The Rs 150 crore company has set an ambitious target of 10 million phones by 2007 from the present 4 million phones.

In five years, the company will be adding a number of high-end phones in the country. It has already entered into an agreement with a Chinese design maker to manufacture high-end phones in the lattter's facility in China under an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis.
Rakesh Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman and managing director of Bharti Enterprises, confirmed the appointment of Kapur.
Meanwhile, Prakash has joined a joint venture company floated by a domestic optical media manufacturing firm and a multinational. At Bharti Teletech, Prakash spent four years and was responsible for the firm's new telephone launches and new projects.
