With investments being lined up for port expansions and new port projects along Gujarat coast, Terex India, an Indian arm of US-based Terex Corporation has set its focus on material handling and port solutions for Gujarat ports. The company is likely to initiate talks with port operators in Gujarat to supply large to small sized cranes for applications in port operations.

"Gujarat is a major market for us as business environment is thriving here. Many of our industrial equipment have applications in various segments including material handling and ports solutions for this market. We would soon initiate talks with port operators in Gujarat to supply equipment," said Jehangir Ardeshir, president and managing director, Terex India Pvt Ltd.

Port equipment like TFC 45 reach stackers have vast applications for container handling at ports like Kandla and Mundra Port.

Last year, the company sold about US $ 65 million worth of cranes and port equipment in Indian market. Now company has set ambitious plans for its penetration in Gujarat market.

"However, it is not an easy task to succeed in port solutions as many of the port operators have already contracted with other suppliers of equipment. But we are confident of getting good business with our premium quality cranes and other equipment," said Ardeshir.

Terex India registered total turnover of US $ 170 million, showing a 70 per cent growth on year-on-year basis. The company operates in four major business verticals including materials processing, cranes, construction equipment and aerial work platforms and utilities.

Commenting about Gujarat market, Ardeshir informed that company's backhoe loaders (popularly known under generic name of JCB) is increasingly gaining acceptance among retail buyers. Besides that company has also developed a mobile crushing, screening plant under its materials processing vertical. The company has so far sold over 1000 units of such mobile crushing plants in India.

Terex has manufacturing facilities located at Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Greater Noida near Delhi. Company makes some of its mobile crushing plants and backhoe loaders in India.
