Texport Electronics Limited, a 50:50 joint venture of Texport, Kolkata and Sangam Swiss SA of Chiasso, Switzerland, has launched the AVI range of air-conditioners in the Vizag market.

"We had launched the AVI air-conditioners for the first time in the country at Kolkata. We plan to launch the air-conditioners in the Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bhubaneswar and Jharkhand markets by the end of March," Major Raj Sahai, managing director of Texport Electronics, told mediapersons here.

Texport has been marketing air-conditioners and various other electronic products through Sangam Swiss SA in the Pan-European markets under the brand name Conte Aviral and the success of the same in Europe has encouraged the launch of ACs in India under the brand AVI, he said.

The AVI range has been developed by Basile of Italy and the products are manufactured in China under a contractual arrangement.

"If our market share increases substantially, we would set up our own manufacturing units in India within two to three years. In the first year of operations, we expect a nine per cent market share in the air-conditioners segment in the country and a sales turnover of Rs 600 crore," Sahai said.

AVI air-conditioners come in all types including window, split, floor standing, ceiling cassette, duck and the innovative portable type. The product capacities range from 0.65 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes.

The company also plans to come out with more electronic products like TVs, MP3 players and cameras among others in the near future, he said.
