From medicine to business is a major leap but it was one long jump that Dr Hardeep Singh, CEO of Colorsoft Lens India Pvt Ltd was not afraid of taking. This 39-year-old Sikh graduated in medicine from Bangalore and then practised as a surgeon first at the Safdurjung Hospital and then at the Holy Family in New Delhi.
It was during this time that some friends introduced him to a Japanese construction company looking for a non-technical advisor in India. He gave up medicine and worked full time with them from 1995-98. They constructed the Nizamuddin bridge in New Delhi.
In 1998, he bought a 25 per cent share in Colorsoft which was a company promoted by a group of non-resident Indians residing in London. Once fully established in his own business, Singh has never looked back. Last year, Colorsoft had a turnover of Rs 1.5 crore and he expects to post a turnover of Rs 2.5 crore at the end of this financial year.
