Travel agency Thomas Cook has decided to ramp up its presence online amid growing opportunities in the digital travel and tourism space.

“We already have a strong offline presence. It is much easier for us to build the virtual infrastructure than the other way round,” said Executive Director Rakshit Desai. He said the company was open to a good acquisition for ramping up its technology, but added it was not scouting for any acquisitions at present as there was a lot on its plate to grow organically.

Online travel firms are among the most popular haunts for Indian netizens, industry estimates have shown. The company has adopted a three-pronged approach to have a strong hybrid model — a combination of brick-and-mortar and an online facility. Under the first approach, it is entering into small and localised partnerships. Second, it is working extensively on revamping its web platform and getting innovative technologies to eliminate physical infrastructure.
